How Our Calculators Work
Every calculator on NumBoxHub runs entirely in your browser using documented formulas from official government sources. We do not collect, store, or transmit the values you enter —your salary, tax class, and personal information stay on your device. This page explains the methodology behind the most-used tools so you can decide whether our estimates match your situation.
For the United States, our federal income tax calculators use the IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-41 inflation-adjusted brackets for tax year 2026, the standard deduction amounts, and the FICA wage base of $184,500. State tax pages apply the relevant state's brackets and rates to taxable income after the federal calculation. For Germany, the Brutto-Netto calculators use the §32a EStG progressive tariff formula and the 2026 Grundfreibetrag of €12,348, with church tax (Kirchensteuer) at 8% in Bayern and Baden-Württemberg and 9% in the remaining 14 Bundesländer.
Because we replicate official formulas in client-side JavaScript, you can open your browser's developer tools, read the calculation code, and verify every line against the cited source. Where a calculator uses a simplified assumption —for example, a flat percentage for state tax instead of a full schedule —that limitation is stated on the calculator's own page. We mark every estimate as a planning reference, not as a tax filing or payroll withholding result.
We update calculators once a year after the IRS publishes its inflation adjustments and once a year after the Bundesfinanzministerium publishes the updated PAP (Programmablaufplan). The "Last verified" date on each page shows when the underlying rates were last confirmed. If you spot a discrepancy, our contact page lists the information we need to investigate.
2026 Tax Year: What Changed and How to Use This Site
US Federal Updates for 2026
The IRS announced inflation-adjusted brackets for tax year 2026 in Revenue Procedure 2025-41. The top end of the 10% bracket rises to $12,400 (single) and $24,800 (married filing jointly); the 12% bracket extends to $50,400 and $100,800 respectively. The standard deduction increases to $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples. The FICA Social Security wage base rises to $184,500, while the Medicare portion of FICA (1.45%, plus 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax above $200,000) has no wage cap. These changes flow through every federal calculator on NumBoxHub.
State pages reflect 2026 brackets and rates where state revenue departments had published them by our last verification date. If you live in a state without an income tax —Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire (on wages), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, or Wyoming —your state calculator will report zero state income tax, and the federal portion of the result becomes your only variable income tax. Some states, like California and New York, apply surtaxes above high-income thresholds that our simplified state pages may not capture exactly; check the state page's "About [State]" section for the local caveats.
Germany 2026 Updates
The Grundfreibetrag (basic tax-free allowance) for 2026 is €12,348, up from €12,084 in 2025. The entry point of the top tax bracket (45%) starts at €277,826 for single filers. The solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag) remains in effect only for high incomes; our calculators show it only when applicable. Social security contribution rates have moved slightly: the contribution assessment ceiling (Beitragsbemessungsgrenze) for pension insurance rose to €8,450 in 2026, while the general RV/ALV/PV rates stayed within the documented ranges of 18.6%, 2.6%, and either 2.0% or 2.6% (Sachsen) for Pflegeversicherung.
Church tax (Kirchensteuer) is collected at the source by the employer. Two Bundesländer —Bayern and Baden-Württemberg —apply 8%, the remaining 14 apply 9%. Our Bundesländer pages show the correct rate per state. If you are not a member of a tax-collecting religious community, declare "keine Kirchensteuer" on your tax class and the deduction disappears from your payslip.
How to Use This Site
For US users, start with the paycheck calculator on the US page, set the state, and adjust filing status, 401(k) contributions, and pre-tax deductions. For German users, start with the Brutto-Netto-Rechner and select your Steuerklasse (I to VI), Bundesland, age (for Pflegeversicherung surcharge), and whether you have children. Compare the result with your last payslip to verify that our assumptions match your real withholding. The calculators produce estimates, not payroll-software outputs —always cross-check with your Lohnsteuerbescheinigung (Germany) or W-2 (US) at year-end before filing.
Editorial Standards and Limitations
NumBoxHub's tax-sensitive calculators use formulas traceable to the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the Bundesfinanzministerium, the GKV-Spitzenverband, and the Deutsche Rentenversicherung. We do not reproduce full monthly payroll procedures (BMF PAP) or state-specific payroll withholding tables; where a calculator is simplified, that limitation is named on the page. Federal and state tax data is verified annually; the "Last verified" date on each calculator indicates when the rates were last confirmed.
All content is written by our team and reviewed against official government sources. We do not accept paid placements, sponsored rankings, or affiliate links that would alter the order of our calculators or guides. If a discrepancy exists between our result and your official tax document, treat the official document as authoritative and use our contact form to send us the inputs, the expected value, and the source citation so we can investigate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are NumBoxHub calculators free?
Yes. Every calculator and guide is free to use, with no account or registration. The site is funded by Google AdSense advertising, which may appear on various pages. All calculations run client-side in your browser; we do not have access to the values you enter.
Do you send my data to a server?
No. Open your browser's developer tools on any calculator page and watch the network tab: there is no outgoing request carrying your inputs. The JavaScript on the page computes everything locally. This is verified by the page's behavior, not just by our claim —you can confirm it yourself.
Are the results the same as my payslip or tax return?
They should be very close, but not identical. Real payroll uses BMF PAP (Germany) or payroll-software withholding tables (US) that account for rounding, cumulative payroll, employer-level adjustments, and exceptions we don't replicate. Our calculators are designed for planning and estimation, not as payroll software.
How often is the data updated?
Once a year for federal and state parameters after the IRS and BMF publish their updates. We also review pages when major tax legislation passes. The "Last verified" date on each calculator shows the most recent confirmation.
Can I use your calculators on my phone?
Yes. Every page is responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop. The mobile layout collapses the calculator form into a single column and shows the result prominently above the fold.
Who is behind NumBoxHub?
We are a small team of developers and finance-focused researchers. Our about page lists the data sources we use and our editorial process. We are not affiliated with any tax authority, financial institution, or tax preparation service.
All computation runs directly inside your sandbox browser. No personal data ever touches our backend servers.
No heavy application framework is required for the calculators, keeping pages quick to load and easy to crawl.
Tax-sensitive tools show verification dates, source notes, and caveats where estimates are not official filings or payroll statements.
