Overview
NumBoxHub calculators are built using official government data and transparent calculation methods. This page documents our approach to ensure accuracy, reliability, and transparency for all financial tools on our platform.
US Paycheck Calculation Methodology
1. Gross Pay Calculation
Gross pay is calculated as Annual Salary divided by the number of pay periods. For hourly employees, it would be Hourly Rate multiplied by Hours Worked.
2. Standard Deduction
We apply the IRS standard deduction based on filing status:
- Single: $14,600 (2026)
- Married Filing Jointly: $29,200 (2026)
- Head of Household: $21,900 (2026)
- Married Filing Separately: $14,600 (2026)
3. Federal Income Tax
Federal income tax is calculated using progressive marginal tax brackets published by the IRS. Taxable income is gross income minus standard deduction. We apply the appropriate tax rate to each bracket.
2026 Single Filers Tax Brackets
| Income Range | Tax Rate |
| $0 - $11,600 | 10% |
| $11,601 - $47,150 | 12% |
| $47,151 - $100,525 | 22% |
| $100,526 - $191,950 | 24% |
| $191,951 - $243,725 | 32% |
| $243,726 - $609,350 | 35% |
| $609,351+ | 37% |
4. Social Security (FICA)
Social Security tax is 6.2% of gross income, up to the annual wage base limit ($184,500 in 2026).
5. Medicare Tax
Medicare tax is 1.45% of gross income with no wage base limit. An additional 0.9% Medicare tax applies to earnings above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (married filing jointly).
6. State Income Tax
State tax is calculated using a simplified flat-rate estimate for each state. This is a planning approximation and does not include local taxes, state-specific deductions, or tax credits.

- US state tax calculations use simplified flat rates and do not include local taxes, credits, or itemized deductions.
- German calculations use annual §32a formulas, not the official BMF-PAP monthly payroll procedure.
- Pre-tax deductions (401k, HSA, health insurance) are not included in paycheck estimates.
- Tax credits (EITC, Child Tax Credit) are not calculated.
For official tax advice, please consult a qualified tax professional or accountant.
